TRASH: Goal-setting Simulation
This interactive simulation helps participants explore the importance of setting clear performance goals. Throughout six rounds, participants experience different types of goal statements and their emotional impacts, enhancing understanding of effective goal-setting.
Cómo ejecutarlo
- 1
Begin with Round 1: No Goals and ensure a wastebasket is nearby without drawing attention to it.
- 2
Crumple a piece of paper and give it to one participant, designated Helper 1. Avoid eye contact.
- 3
Explain the TRASH activity and its focus on setting mutual goals. Stop abruptly, check your watch, then inform Helper 1 they failed to throw the paper away.
- 4
Convey frustration by asking if they need constant direction and encourage participants to reflect on the scenario.
- 5
Conduct a brief debriefing: ask Helper 1 about their feelings, and gather reactions from the group regarding similar experiences.
- 6
Highlight the negative impact of a no-goal situation on productivity by prompting participants with examples from their work.
Consejos
Ensure that participants feel safe sharing their feelings during debriefing.
Be mindful of your tone and body language to avoid making Helper 1 feel unnecessarily attacked.
Encourage open dialogue about the impact of unclear expectations in goal-setting.
Variaciones
You can adjust the simulation by using different types of goal statements for subsequent rounds, allowing for deeper exploration of goal-setting effectiveness.
