Brainwriting

Brainwriting is a structured ideation method where participants silently generate and build on each other's ideas. It is particularly effective for tapping into the creativity of all group members, including those who may not typically voice their ideas in a traditional brainstorming session.

Duración
30m–45m
Tamaño del grupo

Materiales
index cards, pens, tape

Cómo ejecutarlo

  1. 1

Write the topic for idea generation on a visible surface and draw a related image.

  2. 2

Distribute index cards to participants, asking them to write down their ideas related to the topic silently.

  3. 3

Participants pass their completed idea card to the person on their right.

  4. 4

Each participant reads the card they receive, adds a new idea inspired by it, and passes it on.

  5. 5

Continue the cycle of reading, writing, and passing cards until each card has multiple ideas.

  6. 6

Collect all cards and tape them to the wall around the topic and its image.

  7. 7

Invite the group to review the ideas, mark the most compelling ones with stars, and discuss.

Consejos

  • Encourage participants to focus on idea quantity over quality initially, to prevent self-censorship.

  • Ensure a quiet environment to allow all voices to be 'heard' equally through writing.

  • Use the review stage to explore and expand on the most promising ideas collaboratively.

Variaciones

For a dynamic twist, participants can fold their idea cards into paper airplanes and fly them to another participant instead of passing them. Alternatively, set up flip-chart stations around the room for a gallery walk format.
