Our Group's Motto
The group collaboratively develops a shared motto or slogan short enough to fit on a bumper sticker. The motto should capture the group's core values, ultimate goal, and motivating spirit — and serve as a rallying point in future meetings.
How to run it
- 1
Introduce the purpose: the group will create a shared motto they can return to when they need to refocus.
- 2
Brainstorm collectively: What do we value most as a group? What is our ultimate goal? What motivates us? What do we want others to think of us? Facilitator captures everything on the whiteboard.
- 3
Give the group time to play with words and phrases — combining, shortening, refining.
- 4
Narrow down to 2–3 candidates through a quick vote or Dot Voting.
- 5
Write the chosen motto on bumper-sticker-sized cardstock.
- 6
Display it at every future meeting as a visible reminder.
Tips
Keep the bumper-sticker constraint — brevity forces clarity.
If the group is stuck, try the reverse: What is definitely NOT our motto?
Laminate the final cardstock so it survives repeated meetings.
Variations
Run this digitally by having participants submit motto candidates in a shared doc, then vote asynchronously before the session.
