1-2-4-All
1-2-4-All is a structured method that engages every participant in generating ideas and solutions. It is particularly effective for harnessing diverse perspectives and facilitating rapid idea development in any group size.
How to run it
- 1
Begin with individual silent reflection on a shared question or challenge for 1 minute.
- 2
Participants pair up to discuss and expand on their ideas for 2 minutes.
- 3
Pairs join another pair to form groups of four, sharing and refining ideas for 4 minutes.
- 4
Each group presents one standout idea to the entire group, repeating the cycle as needed for 5 minutes.
Tips
Ensure participants have time for quiet reflection before starting discussions.
Use a timer to keep transitions smooth and maintain pace.
In large groups, limit the number of ideas shared in the final step to maintain focus.
Variations
Consider using Post-it notes for capturing ideas during pair and foursome discussions. For larger groups, consider expanding from groups of four to groups of eight to build consensus.
