Social Virus
This exercise demonstrates how emotions can spread amongst group members, both negatively and positively. Participants will simulate the transmission of negative expressions to experience the impact of emotions on group dynamics.
How to run it
- 1
Prepare the first scenario for the group.
- 2
Instruct participants to stand up and close their eyes.
- 3
Choose one person to be the 'Negative Infector General' by tapping them on the shoulder. This person will spread negativity.
- 4
Instruct this person to make eye contact with three others, each time infecting them with a negative expression.
- 5
Have the remaining participants move around the room, watching for eye contact to determine if they've been infected.
- 6
After a minute, or when most participants have been affected, call time.
- 7
Ask the group to identify who the Negative Infector General was by pointing at them on the count of three.
- 8
Prepare for the second scenario as needed.
Tips
Encourage participants to be expressive in their reactions.
Ensure a safe environment where participants feel comfortable displaying emotions.
Use the second round to introduce a positive scenario for contrast.
Variations
Modify the expressions to include positive or neutral ones based on the desired learning outcome.
