Peer Coaching Circle

A structured peer learning format where a small group of practitioners support each other's professional development through structured consultation rounds. One person brings a real challenge (the 'client'), others take the role of consultants. Based on the Payette and Champagne co-development model, it develops reflective practice and collective intelligence simultaneously.

How to run it

  1. 1

One participant presents their real professional challenge (5–7 minutes).

  2. 2

Consultants ask clarifying questions to understand the situation more deeply (5–7 minutes).

  3. 3

The presenter defines what kind of help they want: 'My question for the group is…'

  4. 4

Consultants discuss the challenge among themselves while the presenter listens and takes notes (15–20 minutes). The presenter does NOT respond during this time.

  5. 5

The presenter shares what was useful, what resonated, what they will take away (5 minutes).

  6. 6

Brief group debrief: what did we learn from this case that applies to our own work?

  7. 7

Rotate to a new presenter if time allows.

Tips

  • The silence of the presenter during the consultant discussion is the most important and most violated rule.

  • When the presenter is not allowed to defend or correct, they hear things they would otherwise have deflected.

  • Hold this boundary firmly.

Variations

Run a lighter version: '15-minute peer coaching' using the GROW model in pairs. Scale up to communities of practice using rotating triads.
