Count Up

In this activity, participants take turns counting to a predetermined number without overlapping. The objective is to foster focus and collaboration, making it ideal for team building.

Duration
5m–30m
Group size
10–40 people
CCBY-SA 4.0

How to run it

  1. 1

Have the group form a circle and close their eyes. Alternatively, they can spread out around the room.

  2. 2

Explain the rules: the goal is to count to a set number, like 20. Only one person may say one number at a time.

  3. 3

If two people speak simultaneously, the group must restart at 1.

  4. 4

The exercise ends successfully when they reach the target number.

Tips

  • Emphasize the importance of listening and waiting for one's turn.

  • Encourage participants to stay calm and focused, as this enhances group performance.

  • Consider facilitating a debrief to discuss communication and teamwork after the exercise.

Variations

You can adapt this activity for virtual settings by asking participants to keep their microphones muted until it's their turn to count, or by counting in smaller breakout groups.
