Check-in / Check-out

Check-in and check-out are simple processes that allow team members to express their current feelings and reflections. This practice helps foster a sense of presence, commitment, and closure among group members.

How to run it

  1. 1

Gather participants in a circle, either seated or standing.

  2. 2

For the check-in, ask each person to share one thought or feeling they wish to bring into the meeting, using a tailored prompt.

  3. 3

Go around the circle, allowing each participant to share in turn.

  4. 4

For the check-out, repeat the circle formation and prompt everyone to share a takeaway or reflection from the session.

  5. 5

Again, go around the circle and let each participant respond in order.

Tips

  • Choose check-in and check-out prompts that are engaging and relevant to the group.

  • Keep the atmosphere light and encouraging to promote honesty in sharing.

  • Remind participants to listen actively while others share to foster a supportive environment.

Variations

You can switch to an online format by adapting the circle to a video call and calling on participants in a structured order for sharing.
